Off-Road Capabilities
Terrain Response™
The LR3 was the first Land Rover production vehicle to offer Terrain Response™, which lets you tackle difficult surfaces with absolute confidence.
· Center console dial allows you to select one of five terrain types—from on-road driving to snow, mud, sand and rocks.
· As you turn the dial, the LR3 adjusts to the surface you´re about to drive over.
Electronic Air Suspension (EAS)
The LR3´s Electronic Air Suspension (EAS) helps optimize ride height by adjusting each air spring according to load distribution.
The LR3´s Electronic Air Suspension (EAS) is engineered to:
· Increase articulation—that is, extend—over rocks and ruts
· Use electronic controls and air springs to manage the conflicting demands of ride and handling
· Help negotiate off-road trails: terrain-sensing software opens cross-link valves connecting air springs
· Soften spring rates to maximize ride comfort
· Provide impressive wheel travel: 10.75 inches in front and 13.0 inches in the rear
Hill Descent Control (HDC)
Hill Descent Control (HDC) helps control your speed as you descend steep or slippery grades.
· Simply engage HDC and the LR3 will automatically restrict downhill speed
· Minimum target speeds: 1.6 mph (2.5 km/hr) in Low Range, 3.7 mph (6.0 km/hr) in High Range
· Programmable for different HDC speeds
· Even when backing down a steep hill, HDC maintains the slow-speed descent of your LR3, allowing you to concentrate on steering
4x4 Information Center and Off-road Navigation
· The 4x4 Information Center and Off-road Navigation is part of the touchscreen navigation system (not available on V6, optional on V8 SE, standard on HSE) and provides useful information when taking your LR3 off-road.
The LR3 has permanent 4WD coupled with 4-wheel Electronic Traction Control (4ETC).
· Adjusts the distribution of power away from a slipping wheel to those that can accept more traction
· ABS sensors signal the brakes to slow the wheel down until traction is regained when acceleration is too fast
Electronic Traction Control (4ETC)
With ABS sensors, 4-wheel Electronic Traction Control (4ETC) detects wheelspin and applies the brake on the individual spinning wheel. It also restricts engine power to help gain more traction.
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
The LR3´s all-terrain Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) is designed to help keep the driver firmly in command.
· Applies corrective measures if vehicle slides: reduces engine power, applies ABS braking to individual wheels to help maintain control
· Offers option to deactivate DSC when in deep sand, etc.
Ground Clearance
LR3´s Electronic Air Suspension (EAS) makes clearing obstacles a fine art.
· Engage Off-road Mode and the LR3 has a 37.2-degree approach, 29.6-degree departure and 27.9-degree break over angles.
· Offers up to 9.5 inches of ground clearance with off-road mode engaged.
Chassis
The LR3´s steel and aluminum Integrated Body-frame™ structure provides strength and limits body "flex".
· Lightweight, yet strong to help performance
· Extremely stiff—every degree of chassis flex is met with 7.3 million lb.-ft. of resistance to provide structural stability on rough terrain
Gearbox
LR3 is equipped with an electronically controlled transfer gearbox to select either the high or low range of gears.
· High range is used for normal road driving and easy off-road conditions
· Low range is for more challenging off-road conditions
