The 2024 Land Rover Discovery and Discovery Sport are some of the rare examples of British automobiles imported for American consumption. If you are particularly interested in this vehicle, it helps to know how it stacks up to other SUVs on the market. Either model has some very nice features comparable to other SUV manufacturers.
Trim Levels: Isn't the Sport Just a Trim Level of the Original Discovery?
The answer to this question is yes, and no. The original Discovery model has its own trim levels, and the Sport is based on the original model. If you just want the original Discovery, you can choose from the Discovery S, Discovery Dynamic SE, or the upper tier trim level, the Discovery Metropolitan Edition.
If you are more interested in the Discovery Sport, it is a lighter, smaller, and more compact SUV model than the original Discovery. Even when looking at pictures of these vehicles side by side, you can tell rather quickly which one is the original model and which one is the sport model. The 2024 Range Rover Discovery Sport only has two trim levels, the S and the Dynamic SE.
The Interior Is Quite Posh
The Discovery seats up to seven inside with ventilated leather seats in a choice of two solid colors and one two-tone option. Some trim levels offer heated massaging seats at the touch of a button on the onscreen control panel. Most seats are power-adjusted for comfort.
The Exterior Comes with Many Choices
Every trim level and model of either vehicle is offered in eight exterior colors. The Sport comes in a choice of nine exterior colors. Additionally, you can choose eight different wheel styles, each with a different finish. Customize the vehicle however you like by placing an order through a dealership.
Performance with Power
In both the Discovery and the Discovery Sport, you have a 2.0-liter, Turbo Inline-4 gas engine. All models are all-wheel drive for greater control of the vehicles over any ground surface. The Sport offers 246 horsepower and 269 pounds-feet of torque (base model Core S). The base model Discovery has 296 horsepower and 369 pounds-feet of torque. If you opt for the upper tier model of the Discovery, the Discovery Metropolitan, the torque remains the same but your horsepower increases to 355. The Discovery is an 8-speed automatic while the Sport is a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Technology
As with any luxury SUV, there's a lot of tech involved. Touchscreen in-dash controls for comfort and positioning of passengers and recreation options are standard on all models. Multiple controls on the steering wheel ensures that drivers never have to take their hands off the wheel to control what's happening inside the vehicle. Other tech features are directly tied into safety features.
Safety Features
Multiple driver-assist accident prevention and high-tech features are built into every Discovery and Discovery Sport. Front automatic emergency braking to stop forward collisions, wade sensing to prevent you from trying to ford water levels that may be too high, a rearview camera to prevent backup accidents, and at least seven airbags in every trim level of both the Sport and the original Discovery keep you and your family safe. Lane keep assist to prevent sideways accidents and a 360-degree camera view makes sure that there is nothing around your vehicle when you are moving or begin moving.

While you can certainly take a test drive of any Discovery trim level or Sport trim level, it is recommended that you place your order online through a dealership to get exactly what you want.
