Land Rover Defender vs. Toyota 4Runner: Which Midsize SUV Wins Out in Solon?

This midsize luxury SUV is one of the best in its class at going off the beaten path, but it also rides comfortably on paved streets in Cleveland. Performance

The Defender has four engine options, compared to just one for the new Toyota 4Runner. You'll have no trouble keeping up with traffic on the highway in Beachwood with the Defender. Its base four-cylinder engine cranks out 295 horsepower, but an optional supercharged V8 makes 518 horsepower. The 4Runner's lone engine is a 270-horsepower V6.

You'll want a calm relaxing ride when you're driving home from work in Warren, and the Defender delivers. Its fully independent suspension soaks up most bumps in the road for smooth sailing on pavement. The new Toyota 4Runner has a floaty, jarring ride on uneven asphalt. Light steering can cause its body to lean when going around turns.

Interior

Climb into the Defender and you'll be enthralled by its handsome, durable interior. Partial leather upholstery comes standard, but genuine Windsor leather seats are available. Euclid drivers will like its 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which comes standard with wireless device charging. The new Toyota 4Runner has a staid interior with many low-budget materials. Its 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system doesn't offer a wireless device charging pad.
